My books are more dark comedy than gory 😳

In fairness, I understand why people might think my books are gory. Not to suggest they lack in murder, but I don't feel the need to get into the gross details. To some, that might be a turnoff because they might pick up my books with expectations of gore. For others, it might discourage people from attempting to read my books because they could assume my Hernandez series is too gory.

As strange as it may sound, my books are more of a dark comedy, than anything else. Sure, there's crime, corruption, and murder, but there's a lot of (probably) inappropriate jokes and comments along the way. In today's ultra sensitive world, that might be an issue for some, but I don't care because I don't tend to write with many people's feelings in mind. The language is rough.

People regularly ask if my Hernandez series is gory, so I felt it was a good time to clear the air on this issue. Of course, I always suggest anyone even slightly interested should go online and read a free sample of a book to decide for themselves.

Summer isn't over yet! Grab a book and go outside for a relaxing afternoon in the sun. ☀️

Summer isn't over yet! Grab a book and go outside for a relaxing afternoon in the sun. ☀️

If you don't have a great book, I still have a few copies of my FREE ebook (pdf file) to give away. Just reply to this message or get in contact with me through social media. You can find me on all the big platforms @mimaonfire - Wondering what book I'm talking about?

Check out the Amazon link to read a FREE sample and of course, if you'd rather a paperback version, you can order a copy on the site or whatever retailer you prefer. If you want to buy it from a local bookstore, ask the manager to order it to be picked up at the store and of course, you can always suggest it as a purchase to the closest library. In fact, this would be a terrific option because it would give more people the opportunity to discover my book. And remember, you don't have to read the entire series to enjoy the book.

I have a couple new blogs and videos to share.

Gangsters, villains, and vigilantes....and my Hernandez series πŸ”ͺ

If you know anything about my Hernandez series, you probably don't have to be told that it's full of criminals, villains, gangsters, and vigilantes. And if you need to get more familiar with my series, those words could send a strong message about what you're in for if you pick up one of my books.

As I point out in the video below, people love these characters. Some of the most popular televisions have featured or centered on characters that played more the role of an anti-hero than the more traditional hero. We have to ask ourselves why they're so appealing and why at this time in history? Learn more below.

Why I no longer bug the shit out of people for reviews (and what is way easier...)

I once wrote a blog called, Why do authors bug the shit out of you for a review, where I discussed the importance of writing book reviews. I always felt like asking people to write book reviews was like a teacher instructing them to write a major essay to pass a class. It felt like a lot. And in fairness, I know people don't have time.

These days I no longer ask for book reviews. Besides not feeling comfortable asking, I think there's a much easier way to get positive attention to my book with someone simply sharing my book on social media. The ideal and easiest way to help is to take a picture of themselves with my book and share it online. It takes a second and is done.

Any good attention is helpful. To learn more about this topic, check out my video:

Protagonist switch....what does that mean? πŸ€”

One of my favorite things about writing is switching up the protagonist. So, what does that mean, exactly?

As you know, most books have a protagonist. Sometimes it is more than one character, but most times, there is one main character that the reader follows throughout their journey together. The great thing about this is that you can get an in-depth, personal understanding of that character. The not-so-good side is that you only get that character's perspective; therefore, it may need to be more accurate. Occasionally jumping to another protagonist allows you a broader view of the story. Think of it like talking to two friends about an argument they had as opposed to just one of them. One person may only mention some aspects of the argument, giving you a limited view of the scenario. Hearing both sides allows you to see both perspectives, allowing you a much greater understanding.

Everything an author does (other than write the book) πŸ“š

People always seem surprised when I tell them there's much more to being an author than just writing books. Of course, it's like most things in life. We only see one aspect of it rather than the full circle. I look at many professions and only have an idea of what takes place on their average day.

What makes being an artist unique is that many (especially indie artists) probably have a job on top of their art. It's a challenge, but most of us find a way to make it work.

My average day consists of preparing social media, contacting libraries to tell them about my latest book, keeping up with my website, and sometimes jotting down new ideas for my next book. I would say writing, in some aspects, takes up a portion of most of my days. If a book is recently published, it takes much more of my day than times like this, where my latest book was published months ago.
